Fitness Accomplishment

I am very proud that I have stuck to my workout schedule for over a year. My strength, flexibility and cardio have all improved dramatically. A year ago, I was a wreck. I was stiff and very tight - the result of two auto accidents.  I have recently started running a bit; something I never dreamed I would be able to do again.

What is your motivation to stay in shape? I have a teenager at home and my grand daughters are now 2 and 5 years old. I want the energy to keep up with all of them. I also have a long family history of Type II diabetes, so I want to fight that predisposition. I also look better. I never wanted to be “fat and fifty.”

What is your greatest challenge to staying in shape? Taking the time to workout. It is something that I have to put on my schedule or else all of my other obligations will take over every available minute. I was raised in a culture that taught women to sacrifice everything to take care of others. I now know that I need to take care of myself.

What is the key to your success? The main thing is to work out at my scheduled time no matter what else is happening. My “brain chatter” will tell me I’m too busy or too tired or too whatever. I’ve learned to ignore it and lace up my shoes and get going. I’ve never felt worse after working out, so that tells me a lot.

What have you liked about training with your Wildfire Fitness trainer and how has it affected your life? I love working with someone who has the enthusiasm and encouragement to keep me going. I think my trainer is as committed to my success as I am. I am a competitive person, so it is also important to have a trainer who will keep me from hurting myself. I have more energy now and sleep better than I have in years. I deeply appreciate the friendship and support that has developed between us over the past year.

What advice do you give others about fitness? Don’t be afraid to start getting fit. It doesn’t matter what your starting point is; with regular activity, you will notice improvement after a few weeks. I also think it is important to stop comparing yourself to what you were like in the past. It is not helpful to think about how fit, strong, flexible you were, but it helps to think about how fit, strong and flexible you can become.
