Words of Wisdom
What is your motivation to change your lifestyle and to get in shape?
Aside from getting married and wanting to look great, I knew I was approaching a point in my life when I can’t eat whatever I want and expect my pants to fit the same year after year! Old habits are hard to break and I was looking for a jumpstart to a truly healthy and active lifestyle. My daughter is busy and I need to keep up with her too!
What is your greatest challenge to staying in shape?
First, I didn’t look too bad to begin with, so taking the extra step to look GREAT was a little difficult. I could have rested on my laurels for a while. It was easy to do what I’d always done and look okay, but I knew it was definitely possible to look a lot leaner and more toned up. Laziness and plain old fatigue from every day life created an impasse. Second, I love, love, LOVE to cook yummy, buttery, food for myself and for others. Learning to change my food habits was a huge, HUGE challenge, but it was fun to drum up new, healthy, interesting meals to serve. Tempeh & quinoa nachos were a hit!
What is the key to your success?
The initial assessment was very loud wakeup call that I needed to get myself off the couch and out of the pantry. My trainer Tami recommended that we log our daily food and exercise, and signing up with Spark People online was really helpful. I had no idea what I was putting in my mouth before I started keeping track! Positive feedback from my friends, family and of course from my trainer Tami was so motivating! Plus, liking what I was seeing in the mirror was the best pat on the back ever!
What have you liked about training with your Wildfire Fitness trainer and how has it affected your life?
Hiring a personal trainer was one of the best investments I have ever made. In exchange, I received all of the tools I needed to get where I wanted to go, and personalized motivation and instruction from a very knowledgeable, professional, and thoughtful trainer. Feeling better about myself is priceless. Also, my husband is a fan of running, where I was NOT, but now we can do it together and it feels pretty good! I even ran my first 8k this summer!! I had never run more than two miles before Wildfire Fitness.
What advice do you give others about fitness?
Tami liked to remind us that we get out what we put in. Better effort equals better results, and I tried hard to remember that. Some days I really looked forward to my workouts, and some days I really did not. And sometimes, I’d skip it all together. Doing whatever you need to do to stay motivated is key. I think fitness success is very personal and it’s important to remember that the only thing standing between you and your hot body is your level of commitment.
